You learn new skills. The beauty of influencer for brands is that they are able to do it all. As an influencer, not only are you the talent, you can also be the photographer, the stylist, the make up artist, the editor, and the copywriter. On top of all that, you’re also the one publishing the content and reaching the audience. Learning all these skills can be difficult, but it can also be highly rewarding.
You earn multiple streams of income. Marketing is a field that will always have a budget, and as a subsector of this field, influencer marketing only gets bigger every year. An influencer with good engagement and a following of 100K+ can make just as much as a lawyer or a doctor, if not more, just through brand collaborations, but there are also many other ways for influencers to make money. The most popular influencer income streams are through brand deals and affiliate linking, but you can also earn money by creating content strictly for brands to use, by selling a digital or physical product, or even by hosting ads on your content. You have complete control over your business. The person who determines the direction of your business is, you guessed it, YOU! If you decide you want to hit a certain revenue benchmark this year, you can! If you decide you want to take a month off and just do what makes you happen, you can! When your entire business is yours, you have the power to take it wherever you choose.
You get personal freedom. Say goodbye to your desk job- influencers work whenever they want, wherever they want. Because this is a career that is 99% online, you get to work on YOUR time, so if you’re a night owl who’s most productive at 2AM, no problem!
You grow your social currency. Sometimes having a following can help you gain access to things that money just can’t buy- exclusive access, insider tours to locations that are not accessible to the public, and even once-in-a-lifetime experiences. My favorite example of this is my friend Elona, who was able to press the button to set off the fireworks on the Empire State Building because of her following.
You become recognized as an authority. If there’s a particular topic that you LOVE to talk about, and you become known for your knowledge of that topic, you’ll start to gain notoriety in your field. As you create more content and grow your following, more and more people will reach out for advice, collabs, and even interviews!
You collaborate with people you look up to. You know the accounts that you see in your feed and think “Wow, I wish I was creative like that”? Once you become an influencer, they’ll be your peers, and you may even end up working with them!
You grow friendships with other creators. Another side effect of working in the industry? Meeting others in the same industry! There’s nothing more exciting than meeting up with your IG friends IRL, and some of the people I’ve met on this journey have become my lifelong friends.
