6 Keys to Succeeding as an Influencer
6 KEYS TO SUCCEEDING AS AN INFLUENCER
I’ve met so many successful influencers and content creators in my time on the Instagram platform, and after a while, I began to realize that quite a few of them have some very similar traits in common. In this episode, I’ll be discussing those traits, which include: - being self aware about your skills and experience - willingness to experiment and try new things - the TRUTH about talent - why consistency in showing up is SO important in the beginning - why you NEED to be willing to make yourself uncomfortable. If you’re wondering whether you have what it takes to become an influencer, this episode is for you!

It might seem like everyone is becoming an influencer these days - but not everyone has achieved the same level of success. In fact, building a career through social media remains a distant dream for so many people while a select few are able to monetize their influence and build full-blown businesses out of them. If you’re wondering what sets one group apart from the other, then keep reading because I’m diving deep into the key traits that all successful influencers have in common.
1. Self-awareness
Self-awareness is the single most important characteristic that all successful influencers embody. It’s defined as the ability to take an honest look at your life without being attached to what’s right or wrong. This means that successful influencers are capable of looking at their content with a critical eye and asking hard questions that challenge them to level up. They’re receptive to constructive criticism and can react accordingly.
If you lack self-awareness, you’ll never know how your work truly compares to your competition. You won’t know when and where to improve, which will ultimately hinder your ability to evolve as a creator.
2. Eagerness to learn
All successful influencers are also great at analyzing their strengths and weaknesses. They use their strengths to their advantage but work on improving their weaknesses. As a result, they’re life-long learners that never stop seeking out ways to improve. That means taking responsibility in developing their skills whether that’s through podcasts, courses or YouTube videos.
Successful influencers are disciplined and diligent about learning because they know that it impacts their bottom line.
3. Consistency
Successful influencers know that the fruits of their work ultimately come down to consistency. Therefore, they put forth hours of work even if that means skipping out on social events, waking up at the crack of dawn, or staying up late to perfect their work. They know that showing up regularly is how you build relationships with your audience and connect with brands. So, they keep at the tasks needed to achieve their desired result.
4. Passion
You can’t be successful if you don’t love what you do. This is what sets successful influencers apart from others… They’re excited enough about content creation that they can push through periods of low engagement, not getting paid enough, not getting likes and follows, and being criticized by others.
As an influencer myself, I know that I love creating content so much that I’m not phased by negative remarks. I can persevere through difficult times because when you love what you do, it doesn’t feel like hard work at all.
5. Flexibility to adapt to any situation
Change is an inevitable part of life. Given the ever-evolving nature of social media, the best and most successful creators know that they need to continually try new things in order to stay relevant. By adapting to the newest trends and familiarizing yourself with the various content formats, you’ll be in a better position to keep your audience coming back no matter what the market conditions are.
That said, be willing to challenge yourself and ask yourself how you can adapt of-the-moment trends to your brand and niche. Don’t be afraid to step out of the box and try something new, which leads me to my last point...
6. Step outside your comfort zone
Every successful influencer I know has taken some form of risk. For me, that meant quitting my full-time job to pursue Instagram as a career before I was able to generate any income from it. This forced me to get out of my comfort zone and hone in on the skills needed to build a viable business on Instagram.
Taking risks and stepping outside your comfort zone is so important because it creates urgency and ramps up your focus, creativity and drive. As a result, you’ll be able to get over the fear of not knowing what will come next and level up.
Hopefully, these tips have inspired you to look within and take your dreams seriously. Success doesn’t happen overnight, but you can succeed no matter what as long as you’re persistent and committed to your goals.
